I was able to take a short trip home over the holidays which came at a perfect time. Our house sold and I was able to help pack and say one last goodbye. I am once again reminded of all the goodbyes this year has brought, but also eager for the new faces I will meet soon!
I posted a photo of the very
active volcano, Fuego. It erupts nearly every day, and the people here are
expecting a larger eruption in the near future. I often hear the volcano
grumbling from my house at night when the street’s quiet!
These last three months have flown
by and my time in Antigua is fleeting. This means more excitement is coming as
I move to the Dominican, but also more reluctant goodbyes. I love it here and
will have spent 300 hours with my teacher! She, along with my host family, has
been so patient and diligent in teaching me proper Spanish. So far, I’m adjusting
well to Central American life.

In Antigua I’m learning to balance
the normalcy of life with sightseeing and making the most out of my days here. Some
days I spend the afternoon at school doing homework or at the gym while others
I venture out to towns nearby to visit farms, shops or ruins. I spent one
morning learning about indigenous culture here and participated in a mock
wedding. Another day I learned to cook traditional Guatemalan dishes with my
teacher. I am looking forward to another lesson at her house this week!
This time in Antigua has been
growing in many ways. Although I’m sad to leave, I’m excited for the teaching
job that is waiting! As always, thanks for your love and support!
Warmly,
Anna
